Bombardier CRJ900 Simulator
Bombardier CRJ900 Simulators are primary developed by CAE and FlightSafety International. CAE was the first developer and authorized provider of the full motion CRJ900 simulators. FlightSafety International is also a manufacturer of Bombardier CRJ900 simulators. On May 22, 2008 Bombardier announced that FlightSafety would provide additional CRJ900 simulator training for Bombardier to help with increased demand for training. Currently there are 6 active full motion level D CRJ900 simulators that are apart of the Federal Aviation Administration's Qualified Simulators list (As of October 1, 2012). These 6 simulators are operated by Bombardier (1 - CAE Built), CAE SimuFlite (2 - CAE), FlightSafety (1 - FlightSafety), Pinnacle Airlines (1 - FlightSafety) and US Airways (1 - CAE). Pinnacle Airlines also has four active Level 4 CRJ900 simulators and Bombardier has one active Level 6 CRJ900 simulator on the FAA's qualified simulator list. These Level 6 and 4 simulators are non motion CRJ900 simulators.
CAE and FlightSafety Bombardier CRJ900 Simulators
Both the CAE and FlightSafety simulators look different from the outside however, they have similar features that are marketed differently. At CAE, CRJ900 simulators are most commonly built on the CAE 7000 series platform and possibly the CAE 5000 series, which is a smaller cost-optimized full motion simulator. Visual systems for the CAE CRJ900 simulator is powered by the CAE Tropos-6000 image generator software with commercial of the shelf graphics processors. FlightSafety also has similar features that are marketed differently. FlightSaftey does not market it's simulators under a series platform like CAE does (5000 & 7000 series). FlightSafety uses it's VITAL visual system with commercial off the shelf computer hardware to provide a high quality visual simulation for the CRJ900.
The Bombardier CRJ900 simulator is also called Bombardier CRJ9 simulator, Bombardier CR9 simulator, Bombardier CL-600-2D24 simulator, Canadair CL-600-2D24 simulator or the Canadair Regional Jet 900 simulator due to the various names for the CRJ900 jet.
