Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental Passenger Version is Approved for 330 Minutes ETOPS.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental, the passenger version, for 330 minutes Extended Operations (ETOPS) This approval is historically significant as the it is the first time a four engine aircraft has been approved for 330 minutes. ETOPS approval is the set amount of time an aircraft can fly away from an alternate airport. The Boeing 747-8 can now fly longer distances away from alternate diversion airports, which could allow for more direct routes on flights.
